Get To Know
Ellen Tate

     Ellen Tate and her family
live in Southport, just north
of Panama City Florida. She
purchased her first Border
Terrier in April 1989 from a
kennel in Pennsylvania. It
was hard to find a picture of
Border in those pre-internet
days, and harder to find an
unspoken for puppy. She
discussed getting a puppy
with breeders in 6 states
before making her choice.

Alabamaearthdog Trial Completed

 Sunday Nov 13, 2011

The 2011 Alabamaearthdog Trial started on Friday Nov 11th with an AWTA den trial followed on Sat and Sunday by three AKC earthdog events and ended at noon Sunday the 13th .

The weather was terrific, the entries were
plentiful, the handlers were from all extremes in age, geography, and earthdog experience, and some excellent and exciting earthdog work was observed.

The judges were superb in their evaluation of the performances and where appropriate gave the handlers good advice.

It was an enjoyable time !

Many thanks to all our entries and to the many volunteers that made this a smooth running and enjoyable time

There was a high percentage of qualifiers, possibly due to a large number of returning entries and possibly pre-trial practices.

Some excellent work was rewarded by recognition and ribbons.

Complete AWTA and AKC Results to follow later.

AGSBTC, Alabamaearthdog And Beyond

The Alabama/Gulf South Border Terrier Club was organized 3 years ago to provide support and structure for a great deal of Border Activity being carried out individually in this area. The original focus of the club was to continue the earthdog tests that had been conducted for years by Pat Quinn at Foxley, her home east of Fairhope, Alabama.
The club activities and this web site have reflected this initial focus on earthdog. There is now occurring an expansion geographically as well as increasing interest in a broader range of activities such as breeding, conformation, agility, tracking, etc. A number of young people have become involved and are actively participating in earthdog and conformation, and are showing interest in other performance events.
To more closely represent the expansion taking place, this web site will continue to provide information about earthdog but will expand to cover other interests as they develop. This will be reflected by providing additional columns and "jumps" for information specific to those other interests.

Breeders and Conformation

The Alabama/Gulf South area has been the home of a number of highly successful and respected Border Terrier Breeders for many years, beginning with Pat Quinn 40 years ago. Among others are Donna and Larry Greene, Ellen Tate, and Carol Haugland.
In addition to breeding, all of those mentioned have been highly successful at "showing" their dogs and have finished many Champions. Probably the most notable recent Champion was Zack owned by Sandra and Buster Middleton who was ranked among the top Border Terriers in the world and "Showed" at Westminster several times.
Just recently this group has been joined by Tim and Amanda Stewart with their first litter out of their Plainsman kennel. Three pups out of this breeding remain in the area, are being groomed for the show ring and will be show by several Junior Handlers (Caroline Toombs, Mary Everitt Toombs, and Anna Stewart). Caroline and Mary Everette are joined by Claire Stewart in also  handling in earthdog tests.
